About this minor

Summary

LEARNING OUTCOMES

You will learn:

  • How a legal department in a commercial company operates;
  • How to prepare, organise and provide legal advice;
  • How to tackle complex and innovative projects from a legal perspective.

The aim of the minor is to create the conditions of an immersion in the legal department of (i) a toy manufacturer and (ii) a bank with 2 case studies (each treated in 12 hours):

  • preparing a legal analysis on the rules applicable to connected toys for children;
  • assessing the feasibility of implementing a facial recognition tool for identification purposes.

Connected toys for children: exploring laws and regulations related to internet of things, protection of personal data, storage, access and processing of data by the manufacturer and third parties, processing of data through algorithms and artificial intelligence solutions.

Facial recognition: exploring feasibility and options to use a facial recognition tool to identify remotely new clients in accordance with anti money laundering regulations as well as the bank’s internal policies.

Depending on the number of students choosing this Minor, we will tackle these situations by small groups, each engaging in legal research activities and learning how to design legal summaries and conclusions to help the management of the toy manufacturer and the bank decide on the go-ahead of such innovative projects.
