First international and transdisciplinary school on DNA data storage

The MoleculArXiv Autumn School was organised by Michela Testolina, Serge Kas Hanna, and Marc Antonini (all from i3S), together with Vasily Shenshin (ESPCI), and took place from 9 to 14 November 2025 at the IESC in Cargèse, Corsica.

Programme overview :

  • tutorials on DNA synthesis and sequencing,
  • scientific sessions on data compression and constrained coding,
  • focus on error correction and data recovery,
  • presentations by industry professionals on DNA storage security and concrete developments in the sector,
  • academic conferences,
  • a practical sequencing and decoding challenge,
  • two poster sessions,
  • plenty of opportunities for researchers and students to exchange ideas.

This school from the Research Programme MoleculArXiv gathered 45 PhD & post-doctoral students and researchers.

The data show a balance between students coming from France, Europe and Outside Europe which demonstrates the international scope of the school.

A few words from Marc Antonini, programme director of PEPR MoleculArXiv:
We are delighted with this first edition of the PEPR MoleculArXiv school! The feedback has been very positive. Participants came from all over the world and from a variety of disciplines such as chemistry, information science and bioinformatics. This is precisely the aim of this school: to promote interdisciplinary exchanges at an international level in order to strengthen and share knowledge on the data storage on DNA and artificial polymers. We are already preparing for the 2027 edition to enrich the experience offered in line with students' expectations and scientific advances.

This event was co-funded by the RISE Academy.
